Improving Survival from Sudden Cardiac Death in our Community

With more than 300,000 EMS responses to Sudden Cardiac Arrest in the United States every year, understanding the latest research and treatments is essential to increasing survival in our community.

Dr. Joe Ryan will discuss REMSA and Care Flight's involvement in the Cardiac Arrest Registry for Enhanced Survival (CARES) and what the current data is showing about survival in our community.  Using this data, Dr. Ryan will provide an overview of the latest research and how we can utilize this information to improve survival from Sudden Cardiac Death in our community.

Join REMSA for this continuing education opportunity and learn what it takes to give our community the best chance of surviving from sudden cardiac death.  The class will be offered on two occasions to insure everyone has the opportunity to attend and two hours of continuing education hours will be awarded for attendance.

Obstetrics: Down and Dirty Simulation Training

According to the CDC, there were 4,247,694 births in the United States at the end of 2008 and 38,568 of those births occurred out-of-the-hospital.

Most childbirths are absolutely normal and result in the delivery of a healthy baby.  However there are times when the delivery presentation is not normal or some other complication occurs.  Would you know what to do if the first thing you saw when you checked for an imminent delivery was a foot or a cord or would you be sucking in a deep breath, and saying a short prayer while your heart skips a beat or two?  The pre-hospital setting is not the norm for the care of these patients and our infrequent experience with this population is what causes that daunting feeling.

This three hour class is designed for the EMS provider to practice the care of the obstetrical patient that  presents in the pre-hospital arena. The class will consist of obstetrical emergency scenarios using a human patient simulation manikin that actually delivers a baby in real time mode.  You will be working in teams to do the actual care of the patient during childbirth in a pre-hospital scenario setting.
