Pediatric burn calls are high-risk, high-stress, and time-sensitive. This course focuses on the critical early decisions that impact outcomes—from initial assessment through stabilization and transfer.
 
Presenter: Dr. Tina Palmieri, Chief of Burns
 
Objectives: 
  1. Initiate and monitor appropriate burn fluid resuscitation in children
  2. Identify the etiology and initial treatment of the different types of inhalation injury
  3. Outline the principles of acute burn wound management
  4. Describe burn center transfer criteria and avoid common burn stabilization and transport pitfalls in burn patients.
Bio:
 
Clinical Interests
Dr. Palmieri is a burn intensivist caring for children with burn injury, major wounds, or skin disorders both acutely after injury and long term. She has a special clinical interest and expertise in inhalation injury, critical care, blood transfusion, burn disaster management, and treatment of life-threatening burn injury.
 
Research/Academic Interests
Dr. Palmieri's research focuses on uniting diverse teams of stakeholders to translate science into optimal clinical care. Her research interests include long term outcomes after burn injury, blood transfusion, wildfire burns, pharmocokinetics, artificial intelligence, and the development of innovative wound care treatments.
